Welcome

Welcome to the Summer edition of the Shepperton
Marina newsletter. I trust you have
enjoyed the boating season so far and have had plenty of use from your boat –
despite the weather!
Since our last newsletter we have continued to make improvements to
the marina and we are delighted with how the new-look Basin B path and the H
Pontoon project have turned out. Judging
by the comments and requests from moorers expressing an interest in wishing to
move on to H Pontoon, it has been very well received by you all.
Over the winter we are planning to carry out more improvements to
Basin B - this time it will be the toilet block that is to be refurbished.
Please carry on reading this newsletter for more information on the
marina expansion, Moorers’ Summer Party and the special discount for the
Holiday Inn Health Club.
I hope that you enjoy the rest of the season and I very much look
forward to seeing you all at the Summer Party in September.

Expansion Update
We are busy working on
the marina expansion and although it seems that nothing is happening on the surface,
we are very busy planning and working on the infrastructure that will serve the
new basins.
It is hoped that that
this phase of the project will be completed by the summer of 2009. We will then be able to start rolling out the
new pontoons that will form the new marina basins.
Hard Standing
With effect from
Due to the work being
carried out on the new basin, the area available for hard standing will be
reduced. Therefore, if you are planning
to use the hard standing over the winter period, it is very important to book a
space in advance by contacting the marina administrator, Billy Leisegang on 01932 260268.

Our new moorers’ website
www.sheppertonlink.com
has proved to be a huge success and will continue to grow over the coming
months.
If you would like to see
something added to the site that will be of interest to you and your fellow
moorers, please send it by email to steve.gray@sheppertonmarina.co.uk
and we will do our best to include the information on the website.
For those of you who
have not had a look at the website – please log on to www.sheppertonlink.com.

For the past few months
we have been sending out an update bulletin to all those who have supplied us
with an email address. From the response
we have received it appears that this is proving a useful means of keeping in
touch with what is happening at the marina.
If you do not receive an
E-Link at present, please supply us with your email address and we will add you
to our distribution list.
Hose Pipe Usage
There is much talk in
the marina world regarding the safety of water drawn from stand pipes. Although our water supply is mains fed, there
is still the chance of contamination to the hose pipe when it is left in the
water or when water is left in a coiled up hose pipe.
We could follow a number
of other marinas and remove all hose pipes from our stand pipes and ask you, the
moorers, to provide your own hoses, but we feel that unless we are given a
directive from TYHA to do so, we would rather adopt a more commonsense
approach.
If you follow these
simple rules there should not be a problem:
§ When washing down your boat, please do not allow the hose
to fall into the marina. This will reduce
the risk of contamination from the river water.
§ We recommend that you run the tap for a few moments to
allow any water that has been laying in the hose to be
cleared before using clean water.
§ We would strongly recommend that you do not fill your
drinking water tanks from any hose pipe within the marina.

Holiday Inn
Health Club discount
We are delighted to
announce that Shepperton Marina has secured a fantastic discount for membership
of the Health Club at the Holiday Inn Shepperton.
Moorers can now take out
an annual Health Club membership at the Holiday Inn Shepperton, giving you full
use of the gym, swimming pool and sauna, as well as any special classes that
are held at the health club, for an annual fee of just £300, saving you over £200!!! (Normal annual membership is £504.)
You don’t have to be a fitness freak to enjoy this offer; you can
enjoy a leisurely rest in the sauna or just a swim, as often as you like, for
less than £6 a week.
In order to take advantage of this exceptional offer, all you need to
do is send an email stating your name and boat name, to:
steve.gray@sheppertonmarina.co.uk
We will then issue you with a letter that you will need to produce at
the hotel when registering your membership.
Please note: This offer is only
open to annual moorers of Shepperton Marina.
Basin B Toilet Block Refurbishment
We are planning to
totally refurbish the toilet/shower block on Basin B. This will take place over the winter period
so that it does not disrupt your boating season while the work is being carried
out.
We will update you about
the progress of this project via the E‑Link, www.sheppertonlink.com
and posters on the notice boards.
Yellow Ribbon

Have you ever fallen into the water and found yourself disorientated
and not sure where the safety ladders are situated?
Have you then swum to the nearest boat with a ladder, only to find it
was locked in place and you could not use it, thus forcing you to swim to
another boat in the hope that that ladder was unlocked and usable?
If so, we are sure you will see the benefits of
joining the Safe Ladder Scheme.
All we ask is that you tie a yellow ribbon to your ladder to indicate
that your boat ladder is unlocked and safe to use should anyone need to escape
from the water.
Please feel free to call into the marina office to register with this
scheme and collect your free Safe Ladder Scheme ribbon.
Boating
Clubs at Shepperton
Moorers may like to know
that we have three boating clubs based at Shepperton Marina – please feel free
to contact their representatives to see what they can offer you. These clubs have a dedicated page on www.sheppertonlink.com.
Walton Bridge Cruiser
Club have a number of their members moored here at
Shepperton Marina.
Throughout the year they
hold a variety of events, including club nights and summer barbecues.
If you would like to
know more about WBCC, I am sure Mr Bob Tapp (who
moors his boat, Jeverek, on G Pontoon) would be
only too pleased to give you more information or please visit:
or
Yacht Club
The
Albany Motor Yacht Club also have a number of members here at Shepperton and
hold many events throughout the year, including a recent trip across the
channel during the summer – for all the details of that trip why not log on to www.sheppertonlink.com.
A new
schedule of events for the AMYC will be available from the marina office and
will be published on www.sheppertonlink.com as soon as
they have been published.
If you
would like to know more about the club, Don White (who also moors his boat,
Harmony Row, on G Pontoon) is your man.
He can be contacted via email:

General Notices
Those of
you who have read previous newsletters will see that some of the following
topics have been mentioned before. The reason they have been included again
is for the benefit of our new customers and, of course, it also serves as a
reminder for everyone else.
Power Pods & Cables

Please can we remind you
not to wrap any excess power cables around the power pods.
We have seen an increase
in the number of power pods being damaged when cables are not disconnected prior
to the boat leaving its berth – thus resulting in a costly repair to rectify
the damage, not to mention the inconvenience of the loss of power to the
moorings served by that power pod.
Please also ensure that
you do not leave power cables or hose pipes lying across the pontoon, thus
creating a trip hazard.
Dogs
Please can we remind everyone that dogs must be kept
on a lead
at all times and that all mess is picked up and placed in the dog bins
provided.
It is
worth remembering that some people feel uneasy about dogs roaming around the
Cycle Racks
We
have added a number of cycle racks around the
We
have now added six cycle racks adjacent to the pedestrian gate and F Pontoon in
Basin B.
Also
in the next few weeks will be added even more racks in the main car park close
to the marina office.
So
now you can park and secure your bike close to where you moor your boat.
We
would recommend that you keep your cycles locked at all times.
Please
can we ask that you do not chain your bikes to fences or trees.
Please can all boat
owners ensure that your boat is berthed correctly and that no part of the boat,
including davits, tenders and anchors, hangs over the walkway or pontoons.
Failure to do so could
result in injury to other moorers and their guests.
TV Aerials
Please can you refrain
from fixing TV aerials to the bank side posts or pontoons.
We have also received
adverse comments regarding the size of some aerials that are positioned on
boats. Please only use aerials that do
not become an eyesore and ensure that all large aerials are lowered when the
boat is not in use.
Fire
At the end of each
pontoon you will find a fire bell that should be sounded in the event of a
fire. You will also see a notice that
gives you the location of the bell and this location should be relayed to the
fire services when you call them.
Fire extinguishers are
to be found at the head and middle of each pontoon as well as next to the
ferry.
Boat fires can take hold
very quickly and, if you are in any doubt for your own safety, do not tackle
the fire. You and your fellow moorers’
safety must be your first concern.
In all cases call the
fire service and give them your location including the postcode which is on the
fire procedure notice.
Information Boards
Our information boards are
designed to provide you with a variety of useful information such as local news
and events, five-day weather forecast, details of local hospitals and doctors
and much more.
We have also fitted
Perspex boxes to the notice boards so that we can provide you with handouts and
booklets which we hope you will find of interest.
If you have a notice that
you would like to be posted on the information boards, eg promoting an event,
please hand it in to the marina office and it will then be added to the information
boards.
Oil Spills
In
the event of an oil spill in the marina or at the recycling area, please
contact the marina office as soon as possible in order for us to take the
appropriate action to deal with the spillage before it causes any damage to the
environment or to anyone who may slip on the spillage.
We
have a number of spill kits (including an emergency boom system that prevents
large outbreaks of pollution from entering or leaving the marina) which are located
around the marina and these can be deployed very quickly by our trained staff.

When
you are out of the
Recycling
Area
We have a dedicated area
for the recycling of paper, glass and oil in the corner of the Basin A car park.
However, if you have a
battery that you would like to be disposed of, please do not leave it in the
recycling area or anywhere else in the
Please help us to keep

We would also like to point
out that the skip on the hard standing is strictly for the use of those using
the hard standing and must not be used to dispose of hazardous waste or garden/household
rubbish.
All too often we have to
remove bags of garden waste, batteries, gas bottles, and even fridges. We will be forced to remove this facility
from the hard standing if it is not used for the correct purpose.
And Finally
We
hope that you have found the information within this newsletter interesting and
useful.
Should
you require any further help, please do not hesitate to contact the marina
staff listed below.
Don’t
forget to keep us up-to-date with all the latest news via the Shepperton Link
website www.sheppertonlink.com
or please feel free to call into the office if you have any questions and we
will do our best to answer them for you.
On
behalf of all of us in the Shepperton Marina team:
We
hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and we all look forward to seeing you at
the Moorers’ Summer Party.
